For the sixth consecutive year, DKJA was well-represented at the annual Florida Music Educators Association Conference and All-State Elementary Chorus, which took place Jan. 11 through Jan. 13 at the Tampa Convention Center. During the annual gatherings, music teachers attend teaching workshops, and elementary through high school students from throughout the state participate in choral, orchestral and band concerts.
Fifth-grade singers Brynna Kaplan and Ariel Tilayoff were among 200 talented students who participated in an intensive weekend of singing at the All-State Elementary Chorus 2007. Participants were selected from more than 1,000 candidates statewide who provided audition tapes for consideration in September 2006. As part of the All-State Elementary Chorus, Kaplan and Tilayoff, along with other talented fourth and fifth-graders from Florida, rehearsed for eight hours over a two-day period under the direction of a professional musical conductor. On Friday, Jan. 12, the singers performed for a large audience comprised of teachers, administrators, parents and family. The concert was videotaped, and all DKJA lower school students will have the opportunity to view it in their music classes this year.
